“It is a disease that is silent, insidious, and, if left untreated, causes damage quietly.
So, I would say it is dangerous” explain Prof. Lyse BORDIER, Military Physician at the BEGIN Military Hospital, former treasurer of FFRD.
“The type 2 diabetes is often asymptomatic, and that is a concern. It means I could have diabetes without even knowing it” adds Prof. Emmanuel COSSON, Diabetologist at Jean Verdier Hospital in Bondy,
recipient of an FFRD clinical grant.

Diabetes mellitus affects 5% of the French population and is a major burden for the persons living with this chronic disease, with potentially serious complications and high costs induced. Major and continuous improvements have been made for a botter understanding of the mechanisms of the disease and its complications, and for its monitoring and treatment as well.
The FFRD supports clinical, basic, and translational research.
The supported basic research projects address major themes of type 1 and type 2 diabetes
covering subjects such as pancreatic beta cells, insulin resistance, and intestinal microbiota.
The clinical research projects, on the other hand, address the themes of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, as well as gestational diabetes
and often involve large multicenter cohort studies.
