HEALTH SURVEY: 4 Million Diabetics…

What about you?… How affected are you?…

“It is a disease that is silent, insidious, and, if left untreated, causes damage quietly.
So, I would say it is dangerous” explain Prof. Lyse BORDIER, Military Physician at the BEGIN Military Hospital, former treasurer of FFRD.

“The type 2 diabetes is often asymptomatic, and that is a concern. It means I could have diabetes without even knowing it” adds Prof. Emmanuel COSSON, Diabetologist at Jean Verdier Hospital in Bondy,
recipient of an FFRD clinical grant.

  • 630 Million potential diabetics worldwide by 2030
  • 520 000 additional diabetics possible by 2027
  • 600 000 people in France may unknowingly live with it…

How can such numbers be explained?… Can we change tho reverse the trend?…

President’s foreword

Diabetes mellitus affects 5% of the French population and is a major burden for the persons living with this chronic disease, with potentially serious complications and high costs induced. Major and continuous improvements have been made for a botter understanding of the mechanisms of the disease and its complications, and for its monitoring and treatment as well.

The FFRD supports all research on diabetes.

The FFRD supports clinical, basic, and translational research.

The supported basic research projects address major themes of type 1 and type 2 diabetes

covering subjects such as pancreatic beta cells, insulin resistance, and intestinal microbiota.

The clinical research projects, on the other hand, address the themes of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, as well as gestational diabetes

and often involve large multicenter cohort studies.
